Painting by Robert Butler

The Florida "Highwaymen" artists were born out of a unique blend of artistic talent and pragmatic capitalism. Their art was produced to emphasize quantity. They painted fast (James Gibson once painted one hundred paintings in one day) but, still painted well. Their landscapes are of a Florida that is rapidly disappearing.

Take a moment to visit the sites listed in these links. You will be uplifted with stories of challenges met and saddened by others of human frailty and dashed promise. In many ways, the "Highwaymen" represent all of us. Each of the artists has asked themselves, "How will I use my God-given gifts?" Their answers, and our own answers, have made all the difference.
